Ice, Ice, Baby!

During my first eagle expedition, I experienced another first - impressive river ice. It may not be an uncommon sight for many people, but this type of ice on the river was a first for me.
I was impressed.

Some of my first views of the thicker river ice:

Then I saw it flowing under the bridge a little further up river.
(Taken from a moving car!)

Finally, I got up close and personal with the river's edge.
Nature is so cool.

Eagle Expedition

During the winter months, Eagles migrate through my area of the world. Though I have lived here for a few years, this was my first attempt at capturing the beauty of these wild creatures. We did not see too many out today. And, the ones we did see were not within the ideal range for my amateur camera. Still, I had a great time exploring and seeking them out.
They are very large, beautiful birds.

New Heights

At the turn of the New Year many consider all the possibilities of the future. So many goals, so many hopes, and all of those dreams to fly to new heights. I wish you all of that and more in the New Year!

I don't believe this photo can be sold due to legal issues.
However, you can still send it as a free e-card!

What Am I Missing?

Have you ever walked out of a museum, garden, or entertainment experience
and wondered if you missed anything?

I have.

I am one of the lucky few in this world that has had the opportunity to visit the unbelievable Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel in Rome, Italy. I can guarantee you there were a million and a half things I missed in that place. Everywhere you looked - up, down, left, right - everywhere there was art. The beauty and intrigue was endless and I constantly dream of returning to the Eternal City one day.

Here, however, in the mundane everyday life we live, we often overlook those things that were meant for beauty when created. They might be right in front of our noses or right over our heads.

This photograph is not from Roma, but instead from a gem of a place called Busch Stadium, in St. Louis. When I go to a game I usually make a dash for my seat and the glory of the field in front of me. The sights, the sounds, the smells of the game...I love it. But while on a stadium tour I saw something I had never before seen during my multiple visits to the stadium. I had time to take in sights I had never been allowed to see before, or just simply overlooked.

Sometimes when we are in the most beautiful garden we can imagine,
we still forget to stop and smell the roses.
And sometimes, we just need to look up.

Today's photograph is not one of my best. Anyone can see that. I believe a photograph can capture more than perfection though. It can capture a feeling, emotion, thought, and memories without perfection. That is what this one does for me.
It reminds me to stop, take a look around, and ask What am I missing?

Leaves of Change

It is hard to believe that all these leaves have changed, fallen, and now fully cover the yard. Seems like yesterday I was shooting them. They were just starting to change, the sun was shining upon them, and they moved gently with the wind. Such change in such a short period of time. However, before we know it, they will be budding and growing and soaking up that sun all over again. For now, you lovely leaves will be missed.
